New video about Kayan’s “Active Approach to Personal Economy” programme

Kayan invites you to check out the new video about our “Active Approach to Personal Economy” programme. This programme helps to increase women’s knowledge of their economic, social and cultural rights, poverty, gender-responsive public budgeting and requisites of social change. Furthermore, we lend practical tools that improve women’s  skills in handling issues of personal economy, including applying for allocations and tax deductions, taking financial precautions, managing budgets and filing a tax return.

The video shows a conference hosted by Kayan on 29 June 2011 in Majd-al Krum where 140 women from across the north of Israel explored the topic of “Economic Security among Arab Women”. They came together to discuss their personal experiences as past and present participants of the programme. Swiftly growing interest in the programme indicates that Kayan has initiated something truly novel in this domain. Programmes that foster economic security among Arab women typically deal with issues of development and work to provide skills training and employment opportunities. Though important programmes, they have not engaged an entire community of Arab women in a critical questioning of their own perceptions and attitudes toward economic participation. Kayan seeks to delve deeply into the root causes of economic insecurity among Palestinian women; the Active Approach programme is providing a unique and powerful opportunity to do just that.
