Forum of Arab Women Leaders

The Forum of Arab Leaders was born from the women participating in Kayan’s JUSUR project. One of the objectives of JUSUR is to train leaders of women’s initiatives from all parts of Israel. Potential leaders participate in a community organizing course which provides women from the grassroots the confidence and know-how to bring about change in their communities.

The Forum of Arab Women met in October to plan its upcoming conference, scheduled for the beginning of December. After discussing potential topics for the conference, the women have chosen to focus on “Local Partnerships: Challenges, Opportunities and Visions for the Future,” as they agree that this issue requires immediate attention in all of the villages. Five women from the forum are in charge of the conference including setting the agenda and organizing the event. They have been meeting to discuss the different issues that need to be addressed regarding local partnerships, requisites for success in the community, the effect of local partnerships on the success of their work, and their vision for relationships with other organizations and authorities. The participants also articulated challenges they have encountered in order to apply lessons from their personal experiences working with local authorities.
